Zinc 30 + is formulated to provide zinc in its most effective form and to avoid potential gastrointestinal side effects.  The Mineral Transport System® assures the greatest mineral bioavailability by chelating minerals with a variety of amino acids (aminoate, citrate-aspartate, ascorbate and picolinate). To enhance absorption, the controlled delivery system allows a gradual release of nutrients in the small intestine.

Zinc’s key nutritional roles are growth in children and tissue repair and maintenance in adults.  Unlike other minerals that act as enzyme cofactors, zinc is a component of more than 200 enzymes. Most of these enzymes are involved in protein and DNA synthesis.  Consequently, if zinc is not available when enzymes are produced, these enzyme levels decrease.

Those prone to zinc deficiencies may suffer from growth retardation; poor appetite, under functioning sex glands; mental lethargy, delayed wound healing, abnormalities of taste, smell, and vision; skin changes; and, increased susceptibility to infection.  Zinc supplements are particularly important to vegetarians, since only a small amount of zinc found in plant foods is available for absorption. Zinc supplements are also relevant to those taking iron supplements, since iron and zinc compete for the same small intestine absorption sites.
